Warm greetings from Calvary Church!

Grace to you from our God and our Saviour and Lord Jesus! We hope that you are enjoying the hymns in the 2008 HYMNS BY HEART set. We are happy to inform you of the release this September of the second edition (2009) Hymns by Heart Calendar and CD! This is part of a fund-raising project to complete the purchase and fund the construction of its church building in Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City in the Philippines.

ABOUT HYMNS BY HEART 2009 DESK CALENDAR AND CD

Following the successful international distribution of the 2009 edition, Calvary Reformed Evangelical Church proceeded to produce the second edition HYMNS BY HEART set, with a new selection of 15 gospel hymns sung by new and returning Filipino and Chinese soloists and choral groups. Each page of the calendar features four to six stanzas of a hymn, a short commentary with related Scripture verse for meditation. The calendar comes with an audio CD of the hymns sung by Filipino and Chinese hymn-singers that Calvary Church invited to participate in the project.

We are pleased to report that the 2008 calendars and CDs were well-received by churches and supporters from the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. With increasing interest in the project, Calvary Church prays to get additional support from churches in Canada and New Zealand.

In undertaking the Hymns Project, CREC is interested not just to seek financial support for its church-building efforts, but also to encourage a return to hymn-singing, which is an important part of the Christian Church’s Word ministry, taking as its Scripture support Colossians 3:16, which admonishes believers: “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

ABOUT THE FUND-RAISING PROJECT

THE BUILDING PROJECT COMMITTEE

Property along East Capitol DriveIn December, 2006, the Church Council of the newly-organized Calvary Reformed Evangelical Church (CREC) formed the Building Project Committee to be responsible for the acquisition of a lot and construction of the new church building on a 666-sq-meter property at #71 East Capitol Drive, Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City, in Metro Manila, Philippines.

This Committee is headed by Deacon Anson C. Tan, and comprises the following officers and members of CREC: Deacon Patrick Gan, Arlene R. Juansing, Richard C. Juansing, Joy C. Tan, and Ryan Q. Tee.

The Committee proceeded to transact with the Philippine Savings Bank of Makati City in Metro Manila, Philippines, to purchase the bank-foreclosed lot costing PHP11,000,000.00 (about USD235,000.00). After consultations with a Christian contractor, an initial estimate for the construction of a 4-story structure, including a 2-level carpark facility, was reached, amounting to P37,000,000.00 (USD790,000.00), for a total project cost of PHP48,000,000.00 (USD1,025,000.00).

FUND-RAISING EFFORTS DURING 2008

To date, the Building Project Committee has received donations from friends and supporters and offerings from CREC members totaling PHP9.9 million (Approximately USD 207,000) which will almost complete the purchase of the Pasig City lot. CREC members continue to trust God to be able to meet its budget target, and proceed with construction of the church’s permanent worship center and parsonage.

Calvary Church relies on the support of its mother church, the Jubilee Evangelical Church of New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines, and sister churches in the Philippines and overseas, to be able to meet its goal of finishing the church building project before 2010.

THE MINISTRIES OF CREC

CREC currently shares rent on the ground floor of The Centerpoint Condominium in the business district of Ortigas Center in Pasig City. Its co-tenant is a health food company owned by one of its church members.

While it is desirable for CREC to have a place to call its own, the church is committed primarily to its preaching and teaching ministries. Its members continually meet for Bible study every Wednesday, and congregate for worship service and prayer every Lord’s Day.

Calvary Reformed Evangelical Church has a membership of about 50 members under the pastorate of Gilbert McAdam. It is a SEC-recognized religious organization which received the Associate Church Status from Jubilee Evangelical Church of Quezon City, Philippines in July, 2006.

PRAYER SUPPORT

We request your prayer support for this big project and for our church in general! The aim of this Update is to keep you informed of recent developments so that you can pray for CREC regularly. Please pray for an increase in our fellowship and love for one another. Please pray for Pastor Gilbert’s leadership, his continued good health, his family (wife Emily, and daughter Claire Elizabeth, who is almost 2 years old). And pray for the faithful preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in this part of the world.
